Random stuff about stuff

Apparently, I don’t have the supermodel body he required. He called me deceitful. “You told me you worked out at the gym!” he accused. Well, I used to,” I explained. Was it really about an extra inch around my waist, or had he noticed the sock lying on the bathroom floor or a hair on the soap? “You lied to me,” he said. “Well, you’re not six feet tall either,” I told him.

Eleanor Roth - Dating in the Dark

Might sound cynical, but many people lie, exaggerate or “round up” stuff to appear more interesting in online dating.

An ableist message

cpmatters:

I was just watching a commercial on education provided by Quebec. The commercial shows three students having an individual talk with an instructor. When the instructor walks away, each student is transformed into an adult with promising future. It says in the end that education will give you a brighter future so children are encouraged to focus on their studies. It is a nice message but it’s ableism. The three teenagers who become adults with a good profession don’t have visible disability.

Honestly, i don’t think the point of this message is to say people with disabilities can’t good professions. At some point, you can’t have everything 100 % politically correct all the time.

For exemple, there are 3 students in the ad, does that mean that the gender only represented by one student is less likely to succeed than the gender with 2? Does this ad means that the cultural groups not represented in it can’t succeed? Does that mean that older people trying to get an education to get a better career than their current are screwed, since the ad only features younger student? If all 3 students are normal weight, is the ad discrimating against fat people?
